His Excellency and Her Honour with Melinda Wozniak. Melinda Wozniak has put her talent to work in her community. A member of Queen City Caring Clowns, she is committed to the troop’s mandate of making a joyful difference in the community by bringing smiles to people of all ages. Known by her clown name “Hug”, she can often be found cheering residents at the Cancer Patient Lodge, Parkside Extendicare, Sunset Extendicare and the William Booth Care Home.

His Excellency and Her Honour with Annamae McCashin. Annamae McCashin has served tirelessly with the Regina and District Association for Community Living, which advocates for people with intellectual disabilities to be valued as members of their community. Past president of the organization, she has been the driving force behind many initiatives that support the intellectually disabled and their families.

On the occasion of Their Excellencies’ visit, Their Honours The Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, and Mr. Gordon Schofield hosted a Governor General's Caring Canadian Award Ceremony, at Government House. Twenty volunteers where honoured for their volunteer work.

On World Sight Day (October 11, 2012), His Excellency visited the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) of which he is patron. He had the opportunity to meet with staff.

He also participated in the Ignite Your Senses event where he sampled various dessert flavours with a blindfold and simulator glasses that represent four of the most common eye diseases.

The Governor General then addressed members of the Canadian Club of Regina: “Saskatchewan is at a crucial point in its history. The momentum of this province is opening the door to new opportunities. It is up to all of you to make sure it does not swing shut. But I have faith. I have faith in you and I have faith in the history of this place.”

The Trans Canada Trail is a non-profit, registered charity with the mission to promote and assist in the development and use of the Trail in every province and territory. Today, more than 16,800 kilometres of trail have been developed.
