On the eve of his departure for the visit to Mexico, the Governor General had met with the new president at Rideau Hall, in Ottawa.

Their Excellencies arrived at the Presidential Palace to attend the inaugural speech delivered by His Excellency Enrique Peña Nieto, the new president of the United Mexican States. They were accompanied by The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), and Ms. Sara Hradecky, Ambassador of Canada to Mexican United States.
