Visit to Kingston
His Excellency visited Kingston for a full day of activities. The day started with a visit to a Habitat for Humanity build in Bath, just outside Kingston. The Governor General is seen here with Mr. Ron Darling and Mr. John Alkenbrack.

His Excellency engaged in a discussion with Queen’s law faculty students, the same faculty where he studied and taught. Following the discussion, the Governor General officially opened the faculty’s new student lounge.

After accepting the Alumni Achievement Award, the Governor General delivered a speech: "It was at Queen’s where I began my Canadian law career, which took me not to the courtroom, but to the classroom—at this very school—teaching and forming minds like the professors here did for me. And to be honoured alongside other graduates and current students means that I can pass on my love of this institution to another generation."

In the evening, the Governor General received the Alumni Achievement Award from the Queen’s University Alumni Association as part of their Alumni Volunteer Summit.

The Governor General presented the Caring Canadian Award to Mr. Walter Fenlon, a resident of Kingston, during the event. Whenever Walter Fenlon sees a way to improve the community, he steps up to help. Through Imagine Kingston, he has set out a vision for what Kingston can be and challenged others to make it a reality. He has also worked in concrete ways for the good of his city, helping to restore the Grand Theatre, giving leadership to the Kingston Symphony, sitting on Queen’s University’s Campaign Cabinet, and supporting the work of Kingston’s hospitals. In so doing, he has earned admiration for his compassion, his ingenuity and his sustained commitment to giving back.
