Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay

The Governor General, Rick Hansen and the relay participants were cheered on as they neared the residence.

During the reception, Rick Hansen presented the Governor General with one of the Relay's singular medal. They were joined by Mrs. Sharon Johnston.

As patron of the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay, His Excellency joined Canadian Paralympian Rick Hansen as the relay participants arrived on the grounds of Rideau Hall.

On October 26, 2011, the Governor General participated in the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay.

Launched on August 24, 2011, in Cape Spear, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay is retracing the Canadian segment of the original Man In Motion World Tour. It will traverse 12 000 kilometres, through 600 communities and conclude in Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 22, 2012.

In every province, Relay Medal-Bearers will pass along the singular Rick Hansen Medal - produced by the Royal Canadian Mint - as the Relay makes its way across the country.

Following the relay, His Excellency and Rick Hansen delivered remarks during a reception to mark the 25th anniversary of the Man In Motion World Tour.

The relay inspires many in motion, engaging 7 000 participants from across Canada who have made their own difference in the lives of others. The goal of the relay is to bring communities together, highlight the contributions of local champions for positive change, and inspire the next generation to take action.
