Official Visit to British Columbia - Day 1

The official visit to British Columbia began in the capital city of Victoria at the Legislative Assembly. The Governor General conducted an inspection of the guard of honour.

Their Excellencies were guests of honour at a dinner hosted by the Honourable Steven L. Point, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, and his spouse, Mrs. Gwendolyn Point, as well as the Honourable Christy Clark, Premier of British Columbia.

Their Excellencies were officially welcomed at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia where they were presented with a bouquet of flowers from Daisy Irwin (age 6).

During the official welcoming ceremony, the Governor General was presented with full military honours.

Inside the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, the Governor General met with British Columbians from various backgrounds and also with local students.

His Excellency with the assistance of the Honourable Christie Clark, Premier of British Columbia, unveiled the coat of arms to the B.C. Sheriff Services.

Their Excellencies met with individuals involved in the University of Victoria’s LE,NONET (pronounced le-non-git) Project. During the visit, Their Excellencies met with David H. Turpin, President of the University of Victoria, as well as with First Nations Elders, educators and students, to learn about the challenges and successes of the project and assess ways to move forward.

The Governor General visited Maritime Forces Pacific and sailed on board HMCS Regina. Captain Chris Moore provided a brief tour of the bridge.

Their Excellencies were hosted by His Worship Dean Fortin (seated to the right), Mayor of Victoria. During the visit with the Mayor of Victoria, Their Excellencies were treated to a dance performance by artists from Ballet Victoria.
