Honouring Members of the Association des Scouts du Canada
As chief scout of the Association des scouts du Canada, the Governor General presented decorations to four groups of young people, aged 12 to 17. He also recognized 39 adult volunteers and benefactors who have made a significant contribution to the development of Canadian Francophone Scouting.

Mathew Shant Armutlu with the U.G.A.B. Troop received the badge Annapurna. The badge Annapurna is a national decoration of the Association des scouts du Canada, awarded to young pioneers for exceptional achievement. This distinction calls on scouts to challenge and surpass themselves. The badge is inspired by a team of French climbers, lead by Maurice Herzog, who in 1950, conquered the summit of Mount Annapurna , located more than 8000 meters in altitude in the Himalayas.

The Post-Scriptum troop from Montreal received the badge Annapurna for their community service to the École des Arts de Matanzas, Cuba. During their time in Cuba, the young scouts worked with the students of the school to build a vegetable garden giving them access to fresh vegetables. They equipped the school with the knowledge, necessary tools and seeds to maintain the garden for years to come.

Marc-André Lefebvre from Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover, Quebec, received the Silver Heroism Medal. On March 25, 2010, Marc-André came to the aid of his uncle who had been the victim of a knife attack. Thanks to the first aid training he received two week prior, he was able to assess the degree of his uncle injuries and act swiftly to administer first aid while waiting for ambulance to arrive.

Founded in 1961, the Association des scouts du Canada counts more than 18 000 French-speaking youths and adults as members. It offers young Canadians a unique program designed to encourage them to become responsible and self-sufficient, productive members of society. This program also allows members to express their faith and develop their culture openly, in a manner respectful to others.
