CBC Massey Lectures
His Excellency delivered the opening remarks at the final lecture celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the CBC Massey Lectures. The CBC has commissioned the annual Massey Lectures since 1961. The lectures were named for Vincent Massey, who had, at the time, recently completed a seven-year term as governor general of Canada. The Right Honourable Vincent Massey is notable as the first Canadian to hold the post, but it was the work he did before becoming governor general that inspired the CBC to name the new lecture series after him.
