Before leaving New Brunswick, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, visited the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment at CFB Gagetown in Oromocto, New Brunswick.

CFB Gagetown was officially opened in 1958 as a training facility. With 1 100 square kilometres of training area, CFB Gagetown is the second largest military base in Canada and the largest training facility in Eastern Canada.

The base and the units stationed there provide full-time employment to approximately 3 500 military members and 1 500 civilians.
