Reception with heads of State and heads of Government
Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond, together with the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, and his wife, Mrs. Laureen Harper hosted a reception to officially welcome foreign heads of State and heads of Government to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. During the reception, the Governor General and the Prime Minister delivered speeches.

Their Excellencies met with the Grand Témoin de la Francophonie Mr. Pascal Couchepin. The reception was held on February 12, 2010, a few hours before the opening ceremony for the Vanvouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Their Excellencies offered their sincere condolences to the President of Georgia His Excellency Mikheil Saakachvili in memory of luge athlete Nodar Kumaritashvili who lost his life during a training session on the opening day of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
