Official Visit to New Brunswick - Day 2

After the presentation, His Excellency went to speak to the students and congratulated them on their work.

The Governor General delivered remarks in front of 80 participants representing different sectors of society, as well as many of the stakeholders. Sponsored by Roundtable NB2026, this citizen engagement initiative is aimed at engaging New Brunswickers on the topic of their learning culture.

His Excellency attended the discussion launching Learning: Everybody’s Project. The initiative invited New Brunswickers to participate in a public discussion on the value of learning at all stages of life; the roles of government, community, family and individuals in nurturing a learning society; and the actions that can be taken collectively to actively embrace a learning culture.

His Excellency also took the opportunity to meet and speak with veterans who were on site.

Middle school students from Fredericton attended the ceremony.

Their Excellencies had a moment of silent in front of the Provincial Cenotaph.

The wreath was laid on behalf of the people of Canada.

On the eve of Remembrance Day, Their Excellencies laid a wreath at Fredericton’s Provincial Cenotaph.

Cadets also had the privilege of meeting the Governor General.

Students told the history of Fredericton through a series of tapestries.

Following the meeting with staff, Their Excellencies visited the Council Chamber and attended presentation offered by students.

Their Excellencies along with the Secretary to the Governor General Ms. Sheila-Marie Cook (left) had a meeting with Deputy Mayor of Fredericton Mr. Dan R. Keenan inside City Hall.

Upon his arrival at City Hall, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, was greeted by Mr. Dan R. Keenan, Deputy Mayor of Fredericton.

The objective of the project is to engage in a collaborative and deliberative process to identify what form New Brunswick’s ‘culture of learning’ takes, to collectively articulate learning as a core value of their province, and to mobilize all parties around the resulting consensus.
