Visit to Le Pays de la Sagouine

During their visit to New Brunswick, Their Excellencies and Marie-Éden had the chance to visit le Pays de la Sagouine, a reproduction of an Acadian village inspired by the renowned novelist Antonine Maillet, and her most celebrated character, La Sagouine.

Located on the small island of l’Île-aux-Puces, in the town of Bouctouche, Le Pays de la Sagouine is visited by 68 000 tourists every year, which is more than the population of Bouctouche, where Antonine Maillet was born.

The village comes alive each summer with various costumed characters with whom the visitors can chat to discover not only the tales of the Acadian heroine, La Sagouine, but also the traditional Acadian culture.

Thanks to the welcomed tips from a character of the village, His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond was able to show what he could do with wooden spoons, while the Governor General was watching with a smile.

At Le Pays de la Sagouine, music, joy, legends and laughter are contagious! Every day, visitors can discover the colourful sounds of Acadian music with one of the house bands.
