STATE VISIT TO THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC - Official welcoming ceremony in Athens
The Governor General was officially welcomed to Greece by His Excellency Karolos Papoulias, President of the Hellenic Republic, during a ceremony with military honours. Both walked in front of the Guard of Honour.

The official welcome was held at the Presidential Palace, which is the official residence of the president of the Hellenic Republic. It previously served as the Royal Palace until the abolition of the monarchy by referendum in 1974.

The Guard of Honour is composed of Greek Evzones. They wear their uniform with pride as a mark of respect to national tradition and in tribute to the heroes of the nation’s fight for freedom and independence.

The Tsarouchia (Greek traditional shoes) are entirely hand made. The sole has nails which click on the marble floor during the Changing of the Guard.
