Governor General takes part in the International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security in Monrovia, Liberia

Upon her arrival at the Roberts International Airport in Monrovia Liberia, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, received a warm welcome by children. At the invitation of the President of Liberia Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the Governor General of Canada attended the International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security presented on March 7 and 8, 2009.

The International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and security was held at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia, on March 7 and 8, 2009.

Many Liberian women were at the airport to welcome Her Excelllency.

In the presence of the Vice-President of the Republic of Liberia, the Governor General was officially welcomed during a ceremony with military honours.

Many Heads of State and Government Leaders from across the world attended this international colloquium in Monrovia, Liberia.

On the eve of International Women’s Day, the Governor General spoke on the importance of educating and mobilizing women to fight exclusion and oppression at this international colloquium.

The President of Liberia Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf delivered opening remarks at this internatinonal colloquium which empowers women to become effective leaders. It also seeks to establish international networks and to share and implement best practices for developing the economic capacities of women. This colloquium was co-convened by the President of Liberia, and the President of Finland Her Excellency Tarja Halonen.
