Ceremony marking the centennial of the Royal Canadian Mint
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, getting ready to mint a commemorative 50-cent coin in honour of the centennial of the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa. In 1908, former governor general Earl Grey minted the very first coin created by the Dominion of Canada. The coin was a silver 50-cent piece bearing the effigy of His Majesty King Edward VII, inaugurating the Ottawa branch of the Great Britain's Royal Mint.
