Governor General to undertake visit to Toronto

OTTAWA, Ontario—Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will undertake a visit to Toronto on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

The visit to Toronto will focus on reconciliation, mental health and youth engagement.

The Governor General plays an important role in helping to bring awareness to issues, and to profile the diverse and innovative communities that make up our country. Visits are also opportunities for the Governor General, on behalf of Canadians, to recognize and thank people who are making a difference in a broad range of fields.

Meeting with youth finalists of The Children’s Breakfast Clubs Art Competition

The Governor General will meet with up to 50 students from across southern Ontario who are finalists in an artwork competition organized by The Children’s Breakfast Clubs. The competition focuses on themes related to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Her Excellency will engage with the students, view their art and deliver remarks.

Visit to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health

The Governor General will visit the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Her Excellency will tour the ceremony grounds and have a discussion with leaders of the CAMH Shkaabe Makwa program. Her Excellency will also participate in a round-table discussion with young people about youth mental health in Canada.

Remarks at the 10th anniversary of Connected North

The Governor General will attend and deliver remarks at the 10th anniversary celebrations of Connected North. Connected North provides equitable learning opportunities to students and teachers in remote communities through live, interactive virtual learning experiences for Indigenous students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
