"Jean-Daniel Lafond and I were so deeply saddened to hear of the accident that claimed the life of Master-Corporal Anthony Klumpenhouwer in Afghanistan.
This tragic accident adds to the heavy burden that our Canadian Forces have recently incurred and reminds us of the dangers that our soldiers face every day. It is their sense of duty that is the backbone of this mission—their unwavering commitment to restoring peace, stability and favourable development conditions for the Afghan people. We wish to express our gratefulness and admiration to all of them.
During this difficult time, we think of the families and friends of Master-Corporal Anthony Klumpenhouwer, and of his comrades who continue to defend the cause he was fighting for. Please know that all Canadians share in the loss of this soldier and we extend our sincerest condolences and deepest sympathy."
