Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

A cancer survivor and dedicated volunteer, Eleanor Nielsen, of Toronto, Ontario, has given hope to thousands of women. For many years, Ms. Nielsen has volunteered with the Ontario Division of the Canadian Cancer Society and with Research for Recovery, a program for patients. In 1992, she co-founded Dragons Abreast, a dragon boat racing team established to raise funds for cancer research. Ms. Nielsen has also been very active with Hope Air, a non-profit air transportation service for patients with cancer. A quietly determined woman, Ms. Nielsen is strongly committed to helping others.
