Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Edward Malcolm Howlett has been an active volunteer in his community since the age of 12. He worked as a youth leader promoting and organizing activities to help keep youth off the street. In 1984, he founded an organization which raised funds for youth activities and children in need. As a member of his church's cemetery committee, Mr. Howlett's efforts ensured that 16 unmarked veteran plots were commemorated with suitable memorials. Instrumental in establishing a Garden of Peace and a Field of Honour, Mr. Howlett's dedication has provided permanent monuments to the sacrifices of his town's war veterans.
