Maurice J. Lorieau, Calgary, Alberta
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
First in Edmonton, then in Calgary, Maurice Lorieau has been singing and helping others to sing for most of his life. He has sung for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and as a member of his church choir. A musical director and conductor at his church for three decades, he also formed a 350-voice interfaith choir that sang at the Calgary Stampede Worship Service for several years. In addition, he was founding President of the Calgary Opera Company and still maintains an incredible level of energy and commitment to his church and community.
