Between 1997 and 2013, Wendy Boyd volunteered as a peer referral agent with the Halifax Regional Police Employee and Family Assistance Program, helping first responders deal with the aftermath of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health issues. She continues to volunteer for evening and overnight shifts to ensure services are offered 24 hours a day.
