For 10 years, Irwin Axeness has volunteered as the director of the RCMP Central Island Veterans' Association for the Nanaimo region. Since 2012, he has also volunteered with the Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society as a stem cell courier, travelling throughout the world to collect stem cell donations to help save the lives of the critically ill.
