Katharine Masters, Toronto, Ontario
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
As a volunteer for the Visiting Homemakers Association of Toronto in the 1960s and '70s, Katharine Masters provided companionship for the elderly. For over 30 years, she has guided visitors and trained volunteers for the Royal Ontario Museum. Mrs. Masters has served the Abbeyfield Houses Society of Canada for 15 years, establishing Toronto's first House and continuing to serve the Society as secretary. Whether sharing her knowledge of Canadian and Toronto's history by providing historical tours in collaboration with the ROM, or supporting housing for seniors, Mrs. Masters works with warmth and humour to enrich the lives of the people she meets.
