Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Sid Ikeda's many years of service have benefited many Canadians of various cultural backgrounds, particularly those of Japanese descent. As a founding member, since 1978 he has been involved in the Momiji Health Care Society for Japanese-Canadian seniors. Since 1974 he has headed the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto, and was instrumental in enabling it to move to its present location. In addition, for some 25 years, he has made significant contributions to the life and objectives of the Rotary Club of Toronto - Forest Hill. Mr. Ikeda has built bridges between ethnic communities and has promoted the sharing and mutual understanding of their heritage and traditions.
