Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Kathlyn Hall has devoted her life to helping others. For over 25 years, she was a Guide leader, trainer and mentor and currently serves the Trefoil Guild. A founding member of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Society in B.C., she single-handedly established patient services on north-central Vancouver Island. For over 20 years, drawing on her background as a nurse, she has travelled to neighbouring towns to visit people with the disease, bringing them information, equipment and comfort. Mrs. Hall has been an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women for 40 years, has participated significantly in educational programs for the Nanaimo Federation's Seashore Unit and also sings at a senior citizens' home on Sunday afternoons.
