Agnès Emard Doray, Montréal, Quebec
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
After retiring from a career as a social worker in 1985, Agnes Doray has continued serving her community through exceptional voluntarism. In 1990, she helped found the Friendly Visiting Program at the New Hope Senior Citizens' Centre. In order to ensure a proper match between client and volunteer, she visits each person requiring services as often as necessary in order to understand their needs and their personality. She then meets with volunteers to determine the compatibility with the client. She has been working at the Centre three full days per week for the last 11 years, and it is not uncommon for her to call or visit clients during weekends knowing they are alone and in need of company or assistance.
