Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

John Lister has been a volunteer with Scouts Canada since 1965. Today he is still active with the Haliburton Scout Reserve Staff Alumni Association. For 23 years, he was the Eatons' Santa Claus Parade Dressing Room Coordinator. He did everything from organizing the costumes to transporting equipment to the parade. For almost 30 years, he has been actively involved with the Severn River Community Association, whose purpose is to preserve the Severn River Waterway. Mr. Lister is a member of the 48th Highlanders Old Comrades Association and participates in monthly visits to veterans at the Sunnybrook Hospital. In addition, for a number of years, he has belonged to a dance troupe that performs in seniors' homes.
