Sonia Koczekan, Aurora, Ontario
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
In addition to her career with the RCMP, Sonia Koczekan has, over the past twenty years, introduced people with mental and physical disabilities to the joys and benefits of therapeutic horseback riding. Her devotion as a volunteer instructor has helped young riders gain self-esteem, as well as progress to the best of their abilities. Ms. Koczekan also organizes professional training sessions for other instructors and volunteers across the country, and serves as a certification examiner for riding instructors for people with disabilities.
