Gwen Turner has long been involved as a volunteer with numerous community groups. She was active in the Guide movement and volunteered for several years at the University of Alberta Hospital. She is a longtime member of the YWCA, where she is part of a knitting program that provides warm clothing to families in need. Ms. Turner has also worked with a crisis telephone line, raised funds for shelters and a variety of charitable organizations, and supported local historical, social and cultural activities.
