For more than fifty years, John Godfrey has freely given of his time and energy as the principal caretaker of the large and picturesque St. Stephen's Cemetery in Black River Bridge. He maintained the grounds, traced plot locations, and recorded and assisted with burials in every season. He also volunteered his help during the cemetery's two expansions, as well as during the building of a vault and the erection of a retaining wall to protect the nearby shore line.
