R. Arnold Burden, Springhill, N.S.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For decades, Arnold Burden has contributed to his community through his medical practice, his involvement in medical and service organizations and as a scoutmaster. During the 1956 and 1958 mining disasters, he crawled through small tunnels, dragging his medical bag behind him on a shovel, to administer to survivors underground. Dr. Burden has held every executive office in the Springhill Rotary Club and continues to be involved in town affairs and to participate in volunteer activities.
