James G. Hilton, Powassan, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
James Hilton has volunteered his time and energy to help his community and neighbours through his long-time association with the local agricultural society and Royal Canadian Legion, spending hours in support of different events. He has a special interest in young people and regularly sponsors youth programs in the area. He also volunteered to help the Powassan Hockey League and the Old Timers Baseball Team. Mr. Hilton, who in 1971 became a single father of eight children aged one to sixteen, joined Parents Without Partners and soon became an active member. Today, he still hosts two or three family days per year for the organization at his farm.
