Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Jean Burton works tirelessly on behalf of seniors in her community. Active in the Kingston and Area Senior Citizens' Council, she helped to revitalize the organization's travel program and directs a team of volunteer fitness instructors as part of its health promotion program. Through the Canadian Red Cross fun and fitness programs, she taught weekly fitness classes which, at her initiative, were expanded to better meet the needs of seniors. Mrs. Burton has also served on the District Health Council and the local Council on Aging, and is involved with the local Alzheimer Society.
