Frances Kinney Cullen, Johnville, N.B.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Frances Cullen has raised thousands of dollars for worthy causes, including the Northern Carleton Hospital and the Catholic Women's League, by organizing rummage sales and teas, baking pies, cookies and breads, and sewing quilts. She created the banner that represented her church during the Pope's visit to New Brunswick, and designed and quilted family crest banners that were carried during a cultural exchange with Ireland. She is one of the main organizers for her church's biggest fundraiser, the annual Johnville Picnic, and made costumes for the historical characters who walked in the Picnic Parade in 1998. An avid historian, Mrs. Cullen also takes part in historical presentations for the young and not so young.
