William Greenslade, Waterford, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Bill Greenslade, a retired public school teacher, has quietly and over many years helped to nurture the development of the children he taught, especially those with emotional or psychological problems. He has several hobbies, and involves the children in them. He shows and judges fancy birds, and supplies children with show birds and takes them to compete in various events. Mr. Greenslade has paid the registration and equipment costs for children to play hockey, softball and soccer without the knowledge of child or parent. As well, some students find that the fees for a school trip or the cost of a book have been mysteriously paid.
