    Katharine Currie, Ottawa, Ont. Governor General's Caring Canadian Award Katharine Currie has been helping refugees and people in need throughout her lifetime. In Montréal, she visited Aboriginal patients at the Montréal General Hospital and delivered Meals on Wheels. Once in Ottawa, she began volunteering at her church, helping with pastoral care and weekly lunches for seniors. She served on the Coalition for Refugees, attended Citizenship Court receptions, helped to sponsor two Burundian sisters, and co-hosted three Bosnian families. Mrs. Currie also organized collective kitchens for welfare families, coordinated an interfaith pilot project, a drop-in centre that served hot meals to people with low incomes, and supported many other projects to help people in need.
