Connie Millette (posthumous), Matheson, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Connie Millette devoted her life to caring for her community. She served for almost fifty years as a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society, and was involved almost as long with the Catholic Women's League, the Matheson Museum, the Golden Age Circle Club, and the Matheson Library Board. She even managed and operated the tuck shop and cart for the Bingham Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. For almost half a century, she also quilted, drove seniors to appointments, cooked and baked as much for others as she did for her own family. She sewed constantly to make or repair clothing for those in need, served as "mom" to families going through rough times, and helped out members of the community who fell through the cracks of social programs.
