Ruth Dafoe has devoted many years to improving the quality of life for senior citizens and people living with mental illness and disabilities. She serves on the boards or committees of a variety of non-profit organizations and regularly speaks on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. Committed to the care and support of others, she can also be found driving through stormy nights to visit isolated seniors, or meeting with the support group she developed for the family and caregivers of people living with schizophrenia.
