Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

Since settling in Red Deer in 1981, Don Nielsen has been volunteering his time and expertise, particularly in the area of security, to a number of community organizations. From the Red Deer Curling Brier and the Alberta Special Olympics, to the `Jail and Bail' fund-raiser and the Western Exhibition Board, he has provided hundreds of hours helping make these events a success. His involvement has also benefited the Central Alberta Crime Stoppers program, the John Howard Society, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Normandeau Cultural and Natural History Board.
