Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
During her long career as a volunteer, Ivy Johnson has lived her credo that voluntarism is a "sales job from the heart". Arriving in Canada in 1947, she soon began to contribute to her community's welfare by joining the Women's Institute and teaching crafts, as well as by helping to establish the first Cystic Fibrosis chapter in Canada. Over the years, her dynamic enthusiasm has also benefited such diverse organizations as the St. Paul Branch Library, Master Gardeners, and various seniors groups. She is currently involved in a project to identify and better serve senior citizens in the community with hearing impairments.
