    Hazel South, Thornbury, Ontario Governor General's Caring Canadian Award A longstanding member of the United Church, Hazel South has taught Sunday school for over 30 years and has served on the church board and many of its committees. She helped launch Beaver Valley Outreach, which in its early stages provided Christmas hampers, clothing and transportation for the less fortunate. As chair, transportation coordinator and a frequent driver, Mrs. South organized workshops for disadvantaged women and visitation programs for shut-ins and senior citizens. She has also volunteered as a driver for the Children's Aid Society. Mrs. South has demonstrated a profound commitment to caring for others by assisting families of people who are sick and by offering companionship to the isolated and the elderly.
