Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
A dedicated volunteer with the Alberta branch of the Canadian Cancer Society, Laura Lea Manser has raised funds for cancer research, patient services, public education and volunteer development by undertaking new, non-traditional approaches to fundraising. She founded Jail `n Bails in Alberta and the Northwest Territories and initiated the Society's first direct mail campaigns. Mrs. Manser was a founding member of a camp for children with cancer, which has helped hundreds of children and their families enjoy the camping experience together. Her administrative work in building the Society's volunteer strength has encouraged hundreds of volunteers and donors to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
