David Dawson, Kanata, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

Since 1994, David Dawson, Band Officer of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Centurion, has conducted a brass and reed band of approximately forty teenagers in many public performances throughout the Ottawa area. He has tutored air, army and sea cadets, and led them during Santa Claus parades, community Christmas carolling, hospital visits and summer fairs. Mr. Dawson has also prepared young brass players for small ensemble performances, coached cadets for the Kiwanis Music Festival, and integrated air and army cadets into the sea cadet band to make a tri-service cadet band which performs at a home for veterans.
