Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Mr. Frank McCloskey has devoted many years to his community. He is particularly well-known for his support of the Arthritis Society and coordinates a program to help people with arthritis manage their activities. The owner of a small plane, he has flown patients who could not afford transportation to Vancouver for treatment. Mr. McCloskey was also a founding member of the district United Way, assisted the Knights of Columbus with fundraising for the first ambulance in Powell River, helped arrange a water exercise program for people who are mobility impaired, and co-chairs a charity golf tournament. In any spare time he can find, he designs and builds therapeutic aids for people with arthritis.
