André Lord, Charette, Quebec
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Chief of Charette's volunteer firefighters, Mr. André Lord greatly contributed to the community's spirit of solidarity following a tragedy that occurred on May 8, 1997. For fifty-two consecutive days, after the official search for two adolescents swept away by the Shawinigan Falls was abandoned, he demonstrated unbounded commitment by mobilizing and coordinating the efforts of two hundred volunteers to help find the bodies. In addition, Mr. Lord has participated in several fundraising events, has organized fire prevention workshops for young people, and is an active member of the local Optimist Club.
