Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Helen Dyson has served as a volunteer at a seniors' home and long-term-care facility in Dundas for many years. After joining a group of crafters who made Christmas and Easter gifts for chronic care patients at Hamilton's McMaster Medical Centre, she was soon asked to use her sewing skills for endless specialty sewing projects. These have included special slings for children and stroke patients, dolls for child abuse victims and young surgery patients, nightgowns for chronic care patients and colourful crib quilts for the neonatal unit.
