Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Evelyn Farha has devoted all her time to the cause of AIDS since taking over the management of the Farha Foundation from her son in 1993. She has become a prominent spokesperson on behalf of people living with AIDS. The Foundation serves as an umbrella organization for disparate AIDS groups, and Mrs. Farha's message of unity, cooperation and compassion has been integral to raising awareness and to coordinating fundraising activities across Quebec. When not working on Foundation business, she spends many hours each week visiting hospices in the Montréal area, providing comfort to persons living with and dying of AIDS.
