Mr. Graydon Chiarella

Rothesay, New Brunswick

Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers

  • Awarded on: 2003-12-04
Graydon Chiarella, Rothesay, New Brunswick Governor General's Caring Canadian Award Graydon Chiarella retired a decade ago, but he has been busier than ever as a volunteer. He telephones elderly people daily to check on their health, performs odd jobs for them, provides transportation to medical appointments and visits them in hospital. He is equally caring of people who fall ill and of their families, even helping with household chores. His thoughtfulness and handyman skills have enabled some individuals to continue living independently in their homes. He has done all this with kindness and good humour, qualities that he also draws on as a greeter to summer visitors in the nearby city of Saint John.
