Brian J. Duffy, Miramichi, New Brunswick
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For over 40 years, Brian Duffy has demonstrated commitment to his community, as a volunteer firefighter and minor hockey coach, as a faithful blood donor, as a Chatham municipal councillor and through various organizations. A particular interest of his has been working with mentally and physically challenged youth and adults. For more than 20 years he has been actively involved in the Special Olympics, and he helped ensure the success of the 1993 Special Olympic Summer Games in Miramichi. As a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, he also provides assistance to ageing veterans. His efforts have benefited many people in different walks of life.
