Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Duncan Mackay has devoted decades of service to his community. Long active in his church, he has been a member of the Masonic Order for over 50 years and has contributed to Scouts Canada for more than 60 years. With the Shriners, he helped raise funds for children's hospitals. Since 1975, he has been a board member of the Howard House Association of Cape Breton. Through this organization, with gentle persuasion, he has worked hard to change public attitudes toward offenders, emphasizing the value of rehabilitation. Within the Whitney Pier community he has contributed to the local credit union and rink. For people of all ages, Mr. Mackay sets a remarkable example of community involvement.
