Dr. Douglas Earl Hunt

St. Catharines, Ontario

Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers

  • Awarded on: 2002-11-14
Douglas Earl Hunt, St. Catharines, Ontario Governor General's Caring Canadian Award With over 50 years of volunteer work in the service of his community's senior citizens, Douglas Earl Hunt has gone far beyond the requirements of his role as a family physician. He encourages patients to call him at home and makes approximately 30 house calls a week. He supplies them with fruits and vegetables from his garden, shovels snow and makes breakfast for those who lack the strength to do so themselves. He invites those who are ill into his home to care for them and shares Christmas dinner with patients without family. Dr. Hunt's solicitude for the well-being of his community, harkening back to a bygone age, is both exceptional and exemplary today.
